PRODUCTS & INGREDIENTS

A note about summer shipping:
In the warmer months, we may hold shipments for a few extra days to ensure the shortest possible transit time and will ship heat-sensitive products frozen with ice packs. If you are concerned and would like your items shipped overnight, please email us at reachout@countertopfoods.com and we can work something out for you.
What is ghee?

Clarified butter is butter without the milk solids. Ghee is a type of clarified butter that has been cooked a bit longer to caramelize the milk solids before removing them and also cook out all the moisture. What’s left is pure, nutrient-dense butterfat with a high concentration of the full spectrum of fatty acids, Omegas, and Vitamins A, D, E, and K that is quickly, and deeply assimilated into the body. Anyone who has worked in a kitchen knows that ghee is the chef’s cooking oil of choice. It has the nutty richness of butter with a high smoke point which means it doesn’t burn, even in the high heat of a professional kitchen.

Is ghee healthier than other oils?

Ghee has a very high smoke point making it an ideal choice for cooking as it retains its health benefits up to heats as high as 450F. In comparison, extra virgin olive oil has a smoke point of 320F. Heating cooking oil past its smoke point changes the nature of the oil, releasing free radicals. Ghee is one of the healthiest choices to cook with as it’s smoke point is amongst the highest around. It is also an excellent source of Omega fatty acids and vitamins A,E, and K.

Is your ghee grass-fed?

We use butter from Organic Valley in Wisconsin.  The cows are grass-fed, or pasture raised, for 85-90% of the year. During the winter when there is no grass, the cows feed on a combination of corn and hay.

Do I need to keep Golden Butter or Cocoa Butter in the fridge?

You do not need to refrigerate our butter products. We like to keep them on the countertop and use soft and often! Our Golden Butter and Cocoa Butter will melt at temperatures over 90F, so we do recommend that you put them into the fridge during the high heat of summer.

Is Golden Honey healthier than other sweeteners?

Raw, unfiltered honey is one of the healthiest sweeteners out there; it’s completely natural and unprocessed, it has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties and its full of antioxidants and phytonutrients. Still, like any sweetener, pure honey is known to spike your blood sugar. Golden Honey is different; our raw honey is creamed with coconut oil and blood-sugar balancing cinnamon. Golden Honey has 1/3 of the sugar in typical honey, and it even has 1 gram of dietary fiber per teaspoon from the blend of beneficial spices. It also has cardamom, nutmeg, ginger, turmeric, and black pepper to ease inflammation, soothe the gut, and promote good digestion.

Is your honey raw?

Golden Honey and Mother Honey are made from raw, California honey that has been creamed with coconut oil and a blend of spices. The creaming process is a cold process with absolutely no heat used ever.

Is raw honey safe for kids?

Raw honey is generally safe for children over 12 months. Before 1 year, the digestive system may not be developed enough to handle this kind of bacteria. As always, speak to your health-care provider before introducing new foods into your child’s diet.

Your products have a lot of spices, are they spicy?

No! They’re flavorful and quite mild when used in small quantities. Many of our friends’ kids have been the best guinea pigs for our products. People often mistake most spices as “spicy” simply because the words are so similar. What’s incredible about deepening your cooking and food with more spices and herbs is the beautiful and diverse flavor you discover with none of the unhealthy additives that have traditionally given our food that extra notch on the flavor-meter like sugar, corn syrup, and msg.

What is Asafoetida?

Asafoetida is a resin that comes from a root in the celery family. This versatile resin has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic and Indian cuisine for its incredible health benefits and its aromatic, oniony flavor. It is exceptionally beneficial for digestion and can reduce gas and bloating. It is also an excellent source of anti-inflammatory and anti-viral compounds which can lessen respiratory issues, reduce pain, and may help to lower blood pressure. Find Asafoetida in our Golden Butter, or in our Grill, Poultry, and Kitcheri seasoning blends.

How long do your products last?

Spices lose potency (not flavor!) after about a year. Nearly all of our products contain beneficial spices and are best when consumed within 1 year. Our Kitcheri grain mix is also best within 1 year of purchase.

Are your products organic?

Our clarified butter is organic and so are many of our spices (those marked organic on the label).  Although our honey is not USDA organic, it is 100% pure, raw, unpasteurized, unfiltered, and sourced locally from Ventura County, CA. While we’d love to use organic honey, most of the USDA certified organic honey in the US does not come from the US. Working with a premium local supplier has allowed us to ensure that our honey is high quality and 100% pure. We work closely with our suppliers to procure high quality spices from around the world and pay close attention to where we are sourcing our ingredients from to ensure purity and quality.

My Golden Butter or Cocoa Butter melted in transit, can I still enjoy it?

My product(s) arrived damaged, what should I do?

If your product arrives broken or damaged, please email us your order number and a photo of the damaged item and packaging. We will replace your damaged items as soon as possible.

Is your packaging ec0-friendly?

We hate to use packaging that is bad for the environment, but we also want to get everything to you as safely and securely as possible. We do our best to use recycled packaging materials and always choose biodegradable options when we can. Our cornstarch packing peanuts dissolve in water and our polyethylene bubble wrap can be recycled as plastic for the first 12-18 months, or it will biodegrade in 18-24 months if discarded into a landfill.  We also recycle any packaging material that’s sent to us and boxes too when it makes sense. We are continually working to improve and find better, more sustainable options to get our products to you intact.
